3D Printing Reflection: I think that a 3D printer can be very beneficial to the schools that have access to them. There are several different ways these printers can be used to help benefit the learning of students of all ages. Objects that can be printed can help students learn easier by using a visual representation of whatever is currently being taught.
MakerBot: MakerBot print is used to prepare, manage, monitor, and share 3D print files. MakerBot has materials that can be purchased to help maximize the quality of 3D printers. Overall MakerBot is a great quality of 3D printer and material that I could use if I ever decide on purchasing my own 3D printer.
Thingiverse: Thingiverse is a great website that has many different 3D objects that have already been designed and created. This would be very beneficial to use if someone has something they need to print but do not have enough time to design their own.
Tinker-card: Tinker-card is a free website that can be used to create your own 3D designs. This website has creatures, shapes, and so much more that are already created that can be personalized. I could use tinker-card in my classroom because it is quick and easy to use. Students could even use tinker-card to create things of their own.
Smithsonian: Smithsonian is a platform that covers several different kinds of 3D products. This website can be used to be informative about not only 3D printers but also sports, science, and so much more.
I agree that 3D printers can be very beneficial, but with the cost of them, not many schools have access to them. I had honestly never heard of 3D printing before. I come from a very small town where we do not have the resources to buy something like this, so I was unaware it even existed. It is too bad that it is not more affordable, being that it is such a great resource. I like the idea of the students being able to touch, feel, and get a real visual representation of what they are being taught. I think this would make learning much more effective for some/most students.
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear of items that would be shown as examples in your classroom from Tinker-card. Although I enjoyed the purpose of that app/website; I found it very difficult to create something. I couldn't imagine trying to give an example of how to create things. On the other hand, I really enjoyed thingiverse because it had many items already created for me to search up. I love that technology is helping us advance in education; I do think it is going to be devestating for schools who won't be able to afford such beneficial creations.
